Detail A — utuado redux
i tried to recreate a section of the taino ceremonial ball court in utuado, in the center of the island, by painting the central image of the goddess caguana, and adding a ceramic figure zulma brought back from puerto rico and a plastic chief powhatan from
disney's "pocahontas." there's a jibaro (campesino) figure, his stray goat, and a macumba priestess that my sister-in-law marcella brought back from rio. if i really had the skills, i'd set the beach with tiny candles like they do on copacabana beach for the new year in honor of yemaya.
